Saturday March 25th - Opening Day!

Race One ... CHECK IS IN THE MAIL threw in an exceptional prep effort in which he absolutely dictated the terms and then soared home through an astounding 59.4 back-half clocking - Any repeat of that effort could make him extremely handy in the opener ... CAROLINA HURRICANE invades in off that tough metropolitan circuit boasting plenty of confirmed half-mile track speed - The combination of sharp recent NY lines and that promising young driver surely conspire to recommend his chances ... CLASSY KYLE prepped effectively and experiences a significant drop in class as he benefits from the also eligible tag today ... 4-1-6

Race Two ... ALTERNAT THURSDAYS may well provide some hidden value off that less than eye-popping charted prep line - Handicapping rules state that when in doubt take refuge in back-class and he's the classiest entry to be found on this page ... NORTHERN MANDI benefits from that steady prep effort while simultaneously experiencing significant class relief as he makes his state of Maine debut - Those zippy Harrington miles from last fall intrigue us a bit ... MY TWISTED SISTER boasts the best top line to be found in this grouping today - Exits colt class competition to battle older more experienced foes here, but last fall's form was notable ... 5-1-2

Race Three ... BEAS IDEAL makes the key second start off the qualifier as she returns from prepping along that tough Saratoga circuit - Battles mixed sex competition after testing herself versus mares in last but that confirmed half-mile speed should prove formidable ... VERMILLION BIRD toyed with the competition during that rather sturdy prep effort while coming home smartly and hinting at reserves in the tank - This mare is fully capable of capitalizing on the favorable draw ... VACATED toured the outer rim in last but still came home with a respectable 30.4 final panel - Today's driver choice is duly noted ... 2-1-5

Race Four ... ROCK N ALL THE WAY returns to the home track fully speed tightened from all those recent trips to the Big M - Realizes substantial class relief here and was ultra-competitive versus stouter foes when last seen at the Downs ... HOT SHOT LAWYER boasts exceptional sharp recent form while remaining reasonably classified by virtue of the moderate claiming tag - This keen barrister cannot be counted out here ... KEEMOSABE prepped effectively while boasting a sturdy back-half clocking - This one is capable of stepping up big on occasion but has at times disappointed too ... 3-2-5

Race Five ... MY TIME HANOVER rallied effectively to claim top honors in recent morning work and opens the season at the perfect claiming level - We love betting class horses from top rated rosters and we'll get very enthused if Davis elects over the 4 and 6 ... ALL AMERICAN DICE made up some decent ground in the teeth of a solid back-half during recent prep - Here's another classy campaigner who is classified well and loves to factor in the number ... SHOOTER ON THE LOOSE may be a bit hidden in here after loosing some ground in a prep that featured a 59.4 back-half clocking - This guy has generated decent speed on this circuit in the past ... 2-7-4

Race Six ... SIGN TO INVERELL experiences class relief of Homeric proportions as the  uber-classy Aussie makes his first appearance at the Downs - Tough to ignore those zippy efforts and he draws the rail just for good measure - Sometimes it seems too easy ... CORKY BARAN classy 14-year-old appears not to have missed a beat as he launches his final season at the races - This game veteran figures to win his fair share of races before hanging up his bridle ... NATIVE LIGHTNING all things being equal, let's stay on the side of back-class ... 1-2-4

Race Seven ... SAM LUCKY gains the slightest of advantages here based solely on his recent race experience - As for that, this is a remarkably wide open affair ... CAN YOU FLY free-legged campaigner sometimes has trouble getting away from the rail - He's also capable of throwing in respectable efforts, especially down versus these ... COURAGEOUS threw in the best local prep effort of any of these and does benefit from the services of Gary Mosher ... 3-1-6

Race Eight ... LADY SPARTACUS invades boasting exceptionally sharp form from that tough Delmarva circuit while dropping in at a very reasonable level - Finds some legit competition in here but give her the edge based on recent race experience ... MOTORINO prepped for fun in recent outing and also drops in at a rather advantageous level after facing tougher along the Maritime circuit - This guy should be a nice new addition to the local scene this season ... SPY IN THE CAMP squares off versus older more experienced foes but does so after getting tested by speedy Saratoga sorts - One to watch for once he drops down to the colt classes ... 6-2-4

Sunday March 26th

Race One ... IDEALIST plummets down to the NW's bracket of the bottom claiming class after mounting credible zippy efforts at the Big M - This grand 14-year-old should absolutely swell up as he lines up versus this grouping ... DEUCES AND JACKS here's yet another classy veteran who drops in at a very moderate level as he makes his local debut - This guy figures to cross over the $700K level in career earnings today ... YOUR A GAMBLER'S SON threw in a very steady prep effort and actually made up ground through a legit 1:00.3 back-half clocking - Hard to believe this Maine-bred is 13-years-old now ... 2-4-5

Race Two ... ROCNROLWILNEVERDIE drafted behind a confirmed FFA sort in what proved to be the fastest prep race yet this year - Any repeat of that morning work makes him handy in here ... REAL SPECIAL drops down from the FFA classes by virtue of the high-priced claiming tag today - Mounted an extremely sturdy rally bid in his recent prep effort and is certainly fully capable of taking full advantage of the fortunate post position here ... SANDY BARBIE LEGACY starts the season a bit up in company today but appears ready to rumble fresh from the gate based upon that recent qualifier ... 4-1-2

Race Three ... ASTREOS DELIGHT appears ready to factor fresh off the shelf as he bids to build upon that solid prep effort - Drops down into the NW's bracket of the bottom claiming class to enhance his Opening Weekend chances ... ONLY WAY I KNOW rode the good journey to the scant runner-up placing behind a pretty solid mare in that recent prep - Should be capable of securing a forward seat from the fortunate starting spot ... VEAL MARSALA classy veteran loves to factor in the number and can certainly never be discounted at this moderate level ... 5-1-3

Race Four ... CHERRY CROWN JEWEL appeared to have something left in reserve while approaching the wire during that recent prep and is opening the season at a rather moderate level here - Give the mare the slight advantage today ... BLOOD STOCKS HALL TAB experiences the key addition of Lasix today after just nosing out our top tab in that qualifying matchup - We love the idea of boxing the 3-4 Exacta here ... ROYAL HAWAII launches her season a bit above her handiest level but it's always tough to ignore her chances - This mare finished top-two placed in an unheard of 21 of 27 starts last year ... 4-3-1

Race Five ... LUCKS GOTTA CHANGE flashed a bit of her old bravado in that recent prep after perhaps tiring a bit during the tail end of last season - Drops in at a moderate level to open the year and when this mare is on form, she's as tough as any on the circuit ... LUV A LOT HANOVER like our top tab, this steady mare loves the front-end so expect a bit of jockeying for early position here - These two figure to follow one or the other around the oval today with the tale being told at the wire ... SHE'S ALL GOOD sat near the back of the pack throughout that qualifying effort but did manage to come home in 29.4 - There weren't too many sub-30 second final panels recorded during last week's morning works ... 4-1-2

Race Six ... ABERARDER SMITTY rides a two-race win streak into battle today as the Ontario-bred shuffles in from Buffalo - He's climbing the class ladder here but he's sharp and ready ... MCARDLE ROYAL rallied effectively in that recent prep to overcome that 1:04.1 opening half by throwing in a sterling 29.4 final panel - Keep in mind, this guy was a sub-1:55 winner here at the Downs last season ... AINT NO MO made up serious ground through that 59.4 back-half in his recent morning appearance - This 16-time winner last season sure knows where the finish line is ... 1-2-5

Race Seven ... VICTORY TAX classy campaigner appeared well in-hand during his recent morning appearance - He's the confirmed class-master here so it's impossible to ignore his chances ... TANGO PIRATE definitely came into his own during his 8-win 4-year-old season and served notice during his prep that he would be a force once again this year - He did best our top tab on closing weekend last year too ... NAMES MUSCLE capable trotter from too-rated roster - Appears quite Tri-worthy here ... 5-2-3

Race Eight ... DEVIL MAY CARE classy lassie absolutely cruised to victory during her recent prep, punctuating that effort with a sterling 1:00.3 back-half clocking - This mare loves to win and opens her season with a solid shot here ... BUDGIRLS HANOVER opened her season classified a bit above her most favored level but she still appears well-matched in this grouping - Give her a robust chance to factor in the number off that extremely steady prep ... YOU'RE NEWS rallied to a close-up finish behind an accomplished boy in her qualifying appearance and she did become a player in top-class competition last season - Opens her year at a rather moderate level ... 2-3-1
